摘要 The invention relates to a method by means of which compression ratios higher than hitherto possible can be achieved in petrol and diesel engines. To do this, pressure or gas is basically transferred under control through a transfer port from a high-compression cylinder into at least one cylinder arranged immediately adjacent thereto and also subject to high or merely normal compression, depending on the general concept. Pressure or gas is drawn from the high-compression cylinder at the end of the compression stroke or shortly after ignition, so that the ignition pressure is limited. The cylinder acted upon by the excess pressure is advanced by a certain crank angle and is already in the expansion stroke. The method prevents or avoids disadvantageous consequences which have hitherto been associated with an increase of the compression ratio. It also improves the level and the characteristic of the torque and with corresponding design can be used for capillary ignition. In this case the conventional electrical ignition is entirely or partially superfluous. The capillary ignition method also permits engine operation with extremely lean mixtures and low-grade fuels of any state of aggregation.
