The packed bed filter is designed so that the upright packed bed, through which the untreated gas or flue gas flows transversely, is subdivided by at least one gas-permeable partition into two or more packed beds, beneath which a common collection chamber or divided collection chambers having controllable discharge devices are located. The partition surface or the partition surfaces are advantageously coupled to a vibration generator.
