Tool for expanding pipe ends

This tool is designed as a portable tool for expanding pipe ends on metal pipes, in particular for preparing pipe ends for pipe connections. Mounted on a clamping head (1) are two two-armed pivot levers (29), on which clamping jaws (32) are arranged limitedly axially movably for grasping the pipe end. The clamping head (1) is located on a handle shaft (2) which at the same time forms the cylinder housing for a piston (5) which can be moved by a pressure medium and which at its free end bears an expanding mandrel (20) which can be pressed into the pipe end. With the movement of the piston (5), a pressing of the pivot levers (29) and thus of the clamping jaws (32) against the pipe is brought about automatically via control surfaces (41) and pressure rollers (39) on the pivot levers (29). The clamping jaws (32) are guided on rear inclined surfaces in such a manner that, on a movement in the direction of the expanding mandrel (20), they move away radially from the pipe end (24). On pressing the expanding mandrel (20) into the pipe end, this guiding of the clamping jaws (32) brings about an increase of the clamping force and on the return movement contributes to releasing the bracing. For expanding pipe ends made of easily deformable metals such as aluminium, copper or the like, an expanding mandrel (20) made of hard plastic is expediently used, which renders the application of a lubricant superfluous. <IMAGE>
