The method tests a ceramic specimen (4) containing tetragonal zirconia by heating it in an atmosphere containing water (5) for a predetermined period of time, and then conducting a test or tests of its properties. It has been found that the presence of water or water vapor, preferably water vapor in an amount of not less than 0.08 g/l more preferably not less than 2.5 g/l, at elevated temperature, preferably 50 to 1250 DEG C more preferably 150 to 500 DEG C, considerably accelerates the aging of tetragonal zirconia ceramics, so that the aging properties of the material in normal use can be predicted. |
