Process for producing a wear-inhibiting surface layer for writing tubes and cleaning wires of writing tips

The writing tubes and/or cleaning wires intended for the writing tip of drawing-ink fountain pens and made of a chrome-nickel steel parent body are provided with an external wear-inhibiting surface layer using a boride process. The borides are formed by a powder gas-phase diffusion process using a dried boride powder or granular material, ingress of oxygen being prevented before, during and after the treatment. The treatment can be carried out under a protective gas or normal atmospheric conditions.
