A pivoting-form pressing machine and a pressing process for the closing of pipe ends are shown. The pressing machine carries in a headstock (1) a rotating hollow shaft (2) in which a pipe (8) is clamped. On the die side, the pressing machine has a longitudinal slide (16) which can be controlled by a cylinder (15) and on which a permanently settable transverse slide (17) is arranged, a pivotable die carrier (11) being attached to this transverse slide (17). Arranged additionally on this pivotable die carrier (11) is a special support (10) which allows a displacement of the pressing roller (9) in the direction of the arrow (19), that is to say of the axis of rotation of the pressing roller in relation to the pivotable die carrier (11). As a result of the displacement of the special support (10) in relation to the pivotable die carrier (11) for the various shaping steps, different circumferential regions of the pressing roller (9) are put to use. A cylindrical region of the pressing roller serves for supporting and preshaping the pipe-end portion during the drawing-in operation. <IMAGE>
