PURPOSE:To provide a titled cooling zone which cools uniformly a coil and contributes to a reduction in cooling time and an improvement in operating efficiency of a furnace by the constitution in which a movable water cooling box having water feeding and discharging means is brought into direct contact with the plane part of the coil to cool the coil. CONSTITUTION:A coil W heated and soaked to a prescribed temp. in a heating zone in a heat treating furnace for metallic coils provided with the heating zone and a cooling zone is efficiently cooled by carrying said coil W into the cooling zone, cooling the coil with force convection down to about 400-500 deg.C by means of a circulating fan (not shown) then descending a cooler 11 attached vertically movably via a shaft sealing device 14 to the ceiling 6A in the cooling zone by the operation of an air cylinder 15 to bring the water cooling box 12 of the cooler 11 into contact with the plane part Wa of the coil and feeding and discharging cooling water by water feeding and dicharging means 13 consisting of flexible tubes 13a, 13b. |
