PURPOSE:To simplify the structure of the titled apparatus and to prevent malfunctioning of the same due to noises, by obtaining a reference signal, a cylinder discriminating signal and an angle signal by use of two signal rotors and two pickup coils. CONSTITUTION:In a four-cylinder engine, a signal rotor 2 made of a magnetic substance and having 24 projections and a signal rotor 3 also made of a magnetic substance and having four projections corresponding to the positions of the top dead points and one projection for discriminating a particular cylinder are fixed to a shaft 1 which is turned at the half speed of the crankshaft. Outputs of pickup coils 5, 6 disposed to oppose the rotors 2, 3 respectively are furnished to a signal processing circuit 9 via wave-form shaping circuits 7, 8. The signal processing circuit 9 is composed of FF 91-93, inverters 94, 95, NAND gates 96, 97 and a counter circuit 98. Signals furnished to the signal processing circuit 9 are separated into reference signals and cylinder discriminating signals, which are used for controlling the ignition timing, fuel injection quantity, etc. together with angle signals.
