The outer skin of an aircraft is cleaned using a vehicle having a raisable access platform and a telemanipulator or robot carrying brush, water-jet, or ultrasonic cleaning apparatus. The vehicle has a driving cab and a telemanipulator cab, and can circumnavigate the aircraft automatically using an optical or inductance wire guidance system. The vehicle may be used to apply a de-icing fluid to the aircraft. The aircraft outer skin may be cleaned with the aircraft at its docking position alongside the passenger embarkation gate under either semi or fully automatic control. |
