PURPOSE:To obtain a picture tube of a good appearance without any heating traces on the outer surface of a fastening band by heating the whole of the fastening band to form a homogeneous oxidized colored film over the entire band before it is heated again in the process of shrinkage fit. CONSTITUTION:After defatting, the whole of a fastening band 1 is heated in a heating furnace. Here, it is desirable that the heating treatment be carried out at a temperature of 500 deg.C-600 deg.C for 1hr. At this point, the fastening band 1 is entirely oxidized and homogeneously colored. That is to say, an oxidized colored film is formed on the surface of the fastening band 1. Next, the fastening band 1 is set on a shrinkage fit treatment device before being heated and combusted for example with a gas burner 3 from its inside. After that, it is attached around the panel of an explosion-proof picture tube 4 around which an adhesive or tacky tape 5 is wound. Here, the heating and combustion is carried out at a temperature of 550 deg.C-600 deg.C for 20-50sec.
