PURPOSE:To increase the reliability of a lead storage battery by suppressing the passive state of the interface between a current collector and an active material and reduce the self discharge of the battery by adding an aromatic dicarboxylic acid or its salt to at least one of a positive and a negative plate. CONSTITUTION:Monocarboxylic acids such as benzoic acid and toluic acid as well as dicarboxylic acids such as phthalic acid and terephthalic acid, which are easily-available proper materials, are used as aromatic carboxylic acids. Use of an aromatic carboxylic acid for a positive electrode is effective for suppressing the passive state of the interface between a current collector and an active material. Use of an aromatic carboxylic acid for a negative electrode is effective for decreasing self discharge and alleviates remote causes of sulfation. Here, the effect of this invention is achieved irrespective of the kinds of plates for batteries as well as the amounts of the state of electrolyte existing in spaces and in separators each interposed between plates. |
