PURPOSE:To extend the life of a light emitting element and to reduce the power consumption of an optical transmitter by supplying a deficiency of DC of the output current of a photodetector with a separately provided current source. CONSTITUTION:The operating point of the light emitting element consisting of a light emitting diode or a laser diode of the optical transmitter is set to the required lowest point as shown by a point B in figure, and an input signal 12 is superposed to obtain an output signal 13. In an optical receiver 4, a current source 8 is provided between a photodetector 6, which is operated as a current source in accordance with the optical input, and a current-voltage converter 9 to supply a deficiency of DC of the output current of the photodetector 6 which is caused by setting the operating point of the light emitting element to the required lowest point. Consequently, the life of the light emitting element is extended, and that of the optical transmitter is extended. |
