PURPOSE:To continuously perform the dehydration treatment of sludge in good efficiency, by a method wherein an air passage blocking cover is contacted with the peripheral surface of a rotary drum in a sewage advancing side in a slidable manner and an adsorbed sludge releasing means is provided to the initial end part of said cover while the lower part of a sump box under a sewage level is ended as a terminal end part. CONSTITUTION:In supplying sewage to a sump box 8 from a sludge tank 15, a vacuum generating source 25 is at first operated to evacuate a rotary drum 1. Subsequently, the sludge adsorbed with a strainer 6 is dehydrated during one rotation of the rotary drum 1 and peeled off by a scraping plate provided to the initial end part of an air passage blocking cover 2. In this case, because the air passage blocking cover 2 is contacted with the drum 1 in a slidable manner from the part directly after the scraping plate to the lower part below the level 9 in the sump box 9, the adsorption of sludge is performed without inducing the lowering in the vacuum degree in the rotary drum 1. In addition, the sewage sucked into the rotary drum 1 is sucked into a water sucking tank 29 which is, in turn, always held to a vacuum degree near to absolute vacuum by the action of a jet pump 36.
