NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (R1 is H, lower alkyl, phenyl or lower alkoxy; R2 is H, lower alkyl or phenyl; X is cyano or carbamoyl) and its salt. USE:A synthetic intermediate of nucleotide 5'-phosphate derivative useful as an antitumor agent, immunosuppressing agent, antiviral agent, etc. PREPARATIONThe compound of formula III can be prepared by reacting the 2', 3' -cyclic protected product of 4-carbamoyl-1-beta-D-ribofuranosyl-imidazolium-5- olate with a phosphatizing agent (e.g. phosphorus oxychloride) if necessary in the presence of a solvent such as acetonitrile. The compound of formula I wherein X is carbamoyl can be obtained by hydrolyzing the nitrile group of the resultant compound of formula III.
