Braking device for braking elongated objects, such as lumber, which have attained a speed in their longitudinal direction. In this invention, the braking device (1) comprises at least three plates (4, 5, 6) which are situated parallel to and at a distance from each other. Each plate is suspended at its top (8, 9, 10) with hinges so it can pivot in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the plate. The front (4) plate is the stop face for an elongated object to be braked that comes at a perpendicular angle to the plane of the plate. Through the aforementioned pivot action, the front plate (4) is designed to work with a nearby plate that is situated behind it (5'), which in turn works with the nearby plate situated behind it (5''') when it pivots. This successive teamwork with the plates situated behind works in the extent required by the elongated object's kinetic energy when it hits the stop face, i.e. the front plate (4).<IMAGE> |
