PURPOSE:To obtain an optimum copied picture of a negative film by providing numbers of color correcting circuit and selecting a color correcting circuit suitable for the negative color film. CONSTITUTION:A CCD photodetection unit 100 separates a light image from an original into colors B, G, and R thorough a dichroic filter 103, and they are converted photoelectrically by CCDs 107-109 into digital signals, which are further converted into signals of complementary colors Y, M, and C. Those signals are inputted to gamma correcting circuit 201 to correct a gamma curve according to the kind of the negative film, then a masking processing circuit 202 makes color corrections suitable for printing and sends the resulting signals to an VCR processing circuit 203. Image signals of Y, M and C, and BK after color corrections based upon the BK amount calculated by calculating the removal amount of a background color are inputted to a dither processing circuit 204 to perform half-tone representation, and pulse-width modulation is imposed on the binary-coded signals by a multilevel encoding processing circuit 205; and light beams are emitted from a laser unit 302 to a polygon mirror 29 through a laser modulation unit 300 and a laser driver 301 to form a latent image on a photosensitive drum 10.
