PURPOSE:To detect damage of a tool fixed on a spindle accurately by providing a liquid pot in the spindle of machine tool then storing liquid in this pot and immersing an acoustic emission sensor in the liquid. CONSTITUTION:A holder 15 for supporting a tool 14 is fixed at the leading edge of a spindle 13 supported through a bearing 11 in the casing 12. While a transmission gear 18 gearing with a drive gear 17 integral with a drive motor 16 is fitted at the base section of the spindle 13. A liquid pod 20 for storing oil 19 is formed at the base of the spindle 13 to arrange an acoustic emission sensor 21 while being immersed in oil 19. The sensor 21 is connected through a lead wire 22 to an amplifier 23. Consequently the acoustic emission signal is detected from the spindle 13 not through the bearing 11 to suppress noise or vibration caused by damage of the tool 14 resulting in improvement of detection accuracy. |
