PURPOSE:To prevent leakage between shafts and the biting of leaked substances from occurring as well as to aim at the promotion of reduction in damage to a shaft surface, by constituting almost all of both sides of packing members contacting a driving shaft surface and the backside as being covered with an elastic ring outer cover member composed of a rubber material or the like. CONSTITUTION:In a packing ring 3, a shallow outer groove 5 formed in section circular form is peripherally installed on an outer circumferential surface, while an inner groove 6 being opened to the center hole side is as well peripheripherally installed, and this packing ring 3 is fitly housed between an elastic ring outer cover member 7 composed of a rubber material made in section U-shaped form and the inner groove 6 of the said cover member 7 as a whole and constituted of a ring packing member 8 made up of a carbon fiber formed slightly projecting from the opening. Plural members of this packing ring 3 are fitly inserted into a driving shaft 1 inside a packing box 2, and when these rings 3 are clamped by a packing gland 4, an outer circumferential surface at both sides of the outer groove 5 of the outer cover member 7 is forcibly pressed to an inner wall 2a of the packing box 2 while a center circumferential surface of the packing member 8 is forcibly pressed to a shaft surface 1a, respectively. With this constitution, a leakage between a shaft 1 and the said surface and the biting of leaked substances are all eliminated, reducing damage to a shaft surface, thus durability is improvable.
