PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set optimal control parameters from fewer data by means of a control parameter value setting device and setting method for an electronically controlled internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: For electronically optimally controlling an internal combustion engine 1 through a plurality of control parameters by setting optimal values on first and second control parameters in dependence upon the operating conditions of the internal combustion engine 1, the control parameter value setting system comprises a means 31 for setting initial values on the first and second control parameters, means 34 and 35 for operating the internal combustion engine 1 with the initial values of the first and second control parameters being increased and decreased, and estimating limiting points of limiting values or engine response values, to which the first and second control parameters are limited, a means 31A for resetting the initial values to the limiting points, or to the mean values between the old initial values of the first and second control parameters obtained, when the limiting points are detected and the first and second control parameter values at the limiting points, and a means 36 for setting as optical values, the control parameters at optimal values of interest, when the response values or control parameter values differ by a preset level or less between before and after the resetting. |
