PURPOSE:To prevent intrusion of impurities such as oxygen from the outside and to obtain an optical fiber for IR light having a low loss and high performance by performing integrally CVD reaction, melting and cooling in the same glass tube. CONSTITUTION:Ar is introduced into bubblers 1, 2 contg. starting materials such as halide of a metal (e.g.; GeCl4), S, SeCl2, etc. to bubble these materials which are then fed into a glass tube 5 and are heated by an electric furnace 6 and at the same time H2 is introduced into the furnace to reduce the starting materials, thereby depositing Ge-Se powder or the like 7 on the inside wall surface of the tube 5. The inside of the tube 5 is evacuated and the parts of 8, 9 decreased in the diameter are sealed by a burner. The tube 5 is heated for long time and is cooled then the formed rod-shaped glass is removed from the glass tube 5. Said glass is drawn in an inert gaseous atmosphere, by which an intended IR optical fiber having a low transmission loss is obtd. |
