PURPOSE:To manufacture a carbonaceous article having improved characteristics at high temp. by combining a thermosetting resin as a base material with smaller amounts of carbon fibers, graphite and the oxide of a IV or V group metal, molding the combined material, and calcining the molded body in an inert atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:A thermosetting resin as a base material is combined with smaller amounts of carbon fibers, graphite and one or more kinds of metallic oxides selected among the oxides of IV and V group metals. The combined material is molded to a shape according to the use, and the molded body is calcined in an inert atmosphere by heating to >=500 deg.C high temp. at about 2- 100 deg.C/hr temp. raising rate. A carbonaceous article having improved characteristics at high temp. is manufactured. The improved characteristics are provided by adding the metallic oxides and removing H and O by calcination. |
