PURPOSE:To improve the transparency of a resin, by adding a specified organophosphorus compound to the reaction system in the production of an unsaturated epoxy ester resin by reacting an epoxy compound with an unsaturated monocarboxylic acid by heating in the presence of a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The purpose unsaturated epoxy resin of excellent transparency is prepared by reacting, by heating, a mixture of (A) an epoxy compound having at least one epoxy group in the molecule, e.g., a reaction product between bisphenol A and epichlorohydrin, with (B) unsaturated monocarboxylic acid, e.g., acrylic acid, (C) a catalyst, e.g., 2-methylimidazole, and (D) 0.001-20pts.wt., per 100pts.wt. reaction product, organophosphorus compound represented by formula I or II (wherein R1-R8 are each hydrogen, halogen, 1-10 C monovalent aliphatic or aromatic substituent). Component B may be partially replaced with a saturated carboxylic acid or the like.
