PURPOSE:To decrease a residual catalyst content within a short time, by washing an acetylene high polymer in an agitated state under reflux of an organic acid. CONSTITUTION:At least two kinds of acetylene high polymers having the units of the formula (wherein R is H, a halogen, 6 C or lower alkyl, or 6-10 C aryl) is washed for 10hr or shorter in an agitated state under reflux of an organic acid, e.g., lactic acid. EFFECT:It is possible to improve the mechanical strength of an acetylene high polymer and at the same time to reduce changes in electric conductivity with time due to decomposition or degradation. USE:Solar battery, primary or secondary battery or photoconductive material.
