The invention relates to modified nanoscalar titanium dioxide, whose particles are subjected to further treatment using at least one silane linking reagent, selected from compounds of formula (I): R<1>R<2>R<3>R<4>Si, wherein the radical R<1> represents an alkyl radical with 12 to 24 C-atoms or a radical of formula (II), wherein n is a number from 1 to 6, the radicals R<2> and R<3> independently of one another represent an alkyl radical with 12 to 24 C-atoms or a radical of formula (II) or a methoxy, ethoxy or propoxy group and the radical R<4> represents a methoxy, ethoxy or propoxy group. Said nanoscalar titanium dioxide is particularly well suited to use as a UV-protection component in plastics, lacquers and films, in particular, in organic plastics containing halogen, such as PVC.
