The subject of the invention is a method for modifying the width of a slab produced in a continuous-casting installation, by displacements of the small sides of the ingot mould, without interrupting casting. In order to eliminate bulging of the side dams (small faces) and to reduce the risks of perforation in the transition zone of the cast product, at least one small side is displaced only by being pivoted firstly about a substantially horizontal axis O1, O2, located below the exit plane Y-Y' of the ingot mould, and then about an axis O'1, O'2, located above the entry plane Z-Z' of the ingot mould. <IMAGE>
