PURPOSE:To simplify continuous overlaying and to improve overlaying efficiency by solidifying a powdery filler metal by means of molding rollers under rotation and conveying the solidified filler metal to a prescribed overlaying position. CONSTITUTION:When molding rollers 3 are rotated, a powdery filler metal 1 is gradually compressed until finally the metal is molded to the shape of the recess 3a of each roller 3 and is inserted in the form of a solid filler metal into a guide 4. Since the solid filler metal is a solid material formed by powder molding, the metal has some expansibility and contractability and even if the guide 4 has some curvature, the metal passes smoothly through the guide. A torch 6 is ignited to generate an arc 7 just before the solid filler metal projects from the tip of the guide 4. An overlaying operation is started from the point of the time when the tip of the filler metal contacts with the arc 7.
