The present invention relates to a candle and a method for its manufacture. The candle comprises a wick surrounded by a wax jacket, the wick being previously impregnated, over at least part of its length, with a powdered magnesium-based mixture so that the wick, once lit, gives off sparks. The method consists in impregnating the wick in a bath containing the aforesaid mixture, drying the wick, and then manufacturing the candle in a conventional manner. The invention is applicable particularly to decorative candles. <IMAGE>
