CURRENT CONDUCTING ROLLER

PURPOSE:To prevent sparking between a current conducting roller and a strip and to improve the quality and productivity of the strip by the constitution in which electric current is conducted to the strip in the range smaller than the winding angle of the strip on the current conducting roller to heat the strip. CONSTITUTION:Grooves are axially provided to the cylindrical body of a current conducting roller 11 which is supported at both ends freely rotatably by bearings 13, by dividing the entire circumference thereof to equal parts in an annealing furnace which conducts electricity to the roller for guiding a strip 2 and heats the strip by electric resistance. Electrical conductors 10 are embedded therein in said grooves and the spacings between the conductors are insulated. Insulating rings 12 are provided to both ends of the conductors. Brushes 9 are provided via a support 8 within the contact angle theta of the current conducting brushes in the range smaller than the winding angle of the strip 2 on the roller 11 and electric current is conducted only to the part of the strip 2 in tight contact with the roller 11, thereby preventing sparking. The generation of electrolytic corrosion is thus prevented and the decrase in the line speed is avoided.
