PURPOSE:To obtain a heat insulation coat with high mechanical and thermal strength and exceedingly good heat insulation that is difficult to generate cracks even if coating is thickened by coating the end of a luminous tube with mixed fiber-shaped refractory, particle-shaped refractory, binder, and dispersant and heating and curing it. CONSTITUTION:Electrodes 5a and 5b are airtightly sealed in the end of luminous tube made of quartz of a metal halide lamp. Heat insulation coats 6a and 6b are formed at the outside of quartz glass that encloses the electrodes 5a and 5b. These heat insulation coats are obtained by adding a proper amount of water to mullite fiber (3Al2O3.2SiO2) of 40% in weight, alumina particle of 50%, and aluminum phosphate of 10%, well mixing them to obtain aqueous dispersion material, coating both ends of a luminous tube with it by known means such as dipping, brushing, troweling, spraying, etc., drying it at normal temperatures, heating it at approximately 750 deg.C for 30 minutes, and curing it. |
