The lens arrangement (11) serves for use in a refracting telescope (10) having an eyepiece (12), and consists of three lenses E, F and G, of which the lenses E and G are individual lenses, while the lens F is a triplet. The lens G is rigidly mounted on a support (20), while the lenses F and E are mounted axially displaceably on carriages (21, 22), which are driven by an electric motor (23, 25). The motors are controlled by a computer (28) which is preprogrammed by means of data which specify for the prescribed structure of the lens arrangement (11) the dependence of the positions of the lenses (E and F) on the focal length and amplification at the prescribed temperature for the purpose of achieving the best possible optical resolution. The desired focal length and amplification are input into the computer by hand using control devices (30, 32). The temperature prevailing in the lens arrangement (11) is continuously monitored by a measuring sensor (34) and input by the latter directly into the computer (28).
