PURPOSE:To obtain a stainless steel showing superior corrosion resistance even in the presence of Cr<6+> as well as superior weldability by actively adding N to a 25%Cr-20%Ni-Fe alloy, restricting the amounts of Cr and Ni, reducing the C content, and adding a proper amount of Nb. CONSTITUTION:This austenitic stainless steel consists of, by weight, <=0.02% C, <=0.4% Si, 0.1-12% Mn, 15-30% Cr, 7-28% Ni, <=0.02% P, 0.08-0.30% N, 10C%-0.4% Nb and the balance Fe. The steel shows superior corrosion resistance especially as a structural material for an apparatus for reprocessing nuclear fuel.
