PURPOSE:To obtain a plant growth promotor containing beta-carboxyethylsilicon sesquioxide as an active ingredient, and to promote the growth of plants by applying it to plants in the presence of water, preferably in the form of aqueous solution. CONSTITUTION:A plant growth promotor containing a compound shown by the formula as an active ingredient is prepared, and 10-10,000ppm aqueous solution of the compound shown by the formula is applied to the root, etc. of plant, to promote growth thereof. Not only the compound shown by the formula but also its precursor (e.g., beta-carboxyethyltrialkoxysilane) can be used to show improved growth promoting effect. The growth promotor is effectively applied to various kinds of plants such as vegetables, woods, cuttings of horticulture, nursery stocks etc.
