PURPOSE:To form sections corresponding to oblique lines of characters and symbols with smooth curves (including straight lines) in a character and pattern telephone access information network (CAPTAIN) system, so as to improve the displaying quality, by adding correcting dots to the oblique line sections of characters and symbols. CONSTITUTION:By utilizing that characters and symbols correspond to printing type in the form of code, dot-displaying printig type patterns by means of an ordinary character generator are generated at a picture signal composing section 17 and, at the same time, another character generator which corrects the difficulty to see of sections corresponding to oblique lines out of vertical line, horizontal line, and oblique line sections formed by continuous dots that from characters or symbols when characters or symbols are displayed, is provided at a printing type smoothing section 20. By means of the additional character generator, the dot interval of the oblique line section is reduced to, for example, half, by superimposing a saw tooth wave to be used for making minute deflection on the deflection controlling section 21 of a CRT 19.
