A hydraulic drive device is specified which comprises a double-acting hydraulic cylinder as a drive part and an electrohydraulic follow-up control valve as a control part which, with an electrically controllable preset desired value and mechanical actual-value feedback, controls the working stroke of the hydraulic cylinder via an elongated measuring spindle which also performs the movements, for example, of the tool or workpiece and is arranged so as to run along the central longitudinal axis of the valve housing. The housing is flange-mounted on the respective fixed machine element via an intermediate piece which is in good thermal contact with the measuring spindle. It is made of a material which has a greater coefficient of thermal expansion than the spindle material, and the axial length of the intermediate piece is selected in such a way that a temperature-induced length change of the intermediate piece corresponds to the length change of at least that section of the spindle which is equal to the minimum axial distance of its end which can be coupled to the moving part from a driving member which sits on the spindle and whose displacement brings about the axial shifting of the valve-actuating member. Optimum temperature compensation is obtained for a defined value of the working stroke of the hydraulic cylinder.
