A steerable castor which is provided with a locking device serves to block the rolling movement of the running wheel and to lock the castor fork mounted rotatably by means of a swivel bearing. The locking device has a locking lever which interrupts both the rolling movement of the running wheel and the swivel movement of the castor fork, is spring-loaded in the release direction, is acted on via an expansion element actuated by a foot lever and is mounted on an axle bolt which passes through the hollow of the castor fork and is held in bearing points of the fork legs. In order, on the one hand, to be able to arrange the locking device in such a way that it is directed either towards the leading side or towards the trailing side and, on the other hand, has a design which is simple in terms of assembly and production, the longitudinal centre of the swivel bearing and the longitudinal centre of the bearing points which form the axle bolt are located approximately in a plane, the foot lever, the expansion element and the locking lever being connected to one another via supporting and contacting faces.
