Animal furs, skins or pelts can be effectively and gently degreased in aqueous medium using an oxyethylene group-containing primary, secondary or tertiary organic amine (a), having surfactant character, which contains at least one lipophilic radical, it being readily possible to emulsify the extracted fats using a non-ionic surfactant (b).
