At the beginning of casting, such a dummy bar head for the continuous casting of metals is inserted in a sealed manner into the continuous casting mould (8) and joined to the dummy bar. In order to avoid expensive high-quality base and secondary materials (steel turned parts, threaded parts, screws, sealed components) and furthermore to avoid high machining or wage costs (e.g. due to turning, welding, assembly and the like), it is proposed that the dummy bar head be formed by a casting (1) consisting of cast iron, cast steel or a material of a kind similar to casting metal and have at least one projection (13a, 13b), produced by casting, and be provided with a fastening (18) at a connecting element (5) which fills the casting cross-section (8a) of the continuous casting mould (8) and is connected to the dummy bar. <IMAGE>
