Electro-active polymer compositions are described which are produced by doping a polyacrylontrile having a ladder cyclised structure with an electron donor or acceptor. Typical dopants are iodine, arsenic pentafluoride or sodium naphthalide. Alternatively, a polyacrylonitrile may be heated with a metal salt, e.g. copper acetate, to form a cyclised complex coordination polymer. The resulting polymers may exhibit electrical conductivities approaching that of metals. |
