A spring-energised high-velocity air gun, e.g. a rifle has a lever mechanism, which may include the barrel (10) if of break action, for shifting the air piston (14) to its cocked position, and a trigger mechanism including a sear (22) to retain the piston in its cocked position, a hammer (25) which can be released from a cocked attitude to strike the sear and free the piston by means of a spring-loaded trigger (29); and a further lever mechanism (31) for restoring the hammer to the cocked attitude.
