PURPOSE:To provide an adhesive exhibiting excellent adhesive strength for a long period, and suitable for the joining of crosslinked polyolefin pipes, etc., by using a water-crosslinkable polyolefin having a specific melt index. CONSTITUTION:The objective adhesive is composed of (A) a water-crosslinkable polyolefin having a melt index of 0.1-20 [preferably a water-crosslinkable PE satisfying the formulas mp>=500d-345, and 0.915<=d<=0.97 (mp and d are melting point and density of the PE)] and optionally containing (B) preferably <=0.01pt.wt., based on 100pts.wt. of the component (A), of an agent having high activity to promote the crosslinking of the polymer with water. The component (A) can be obtained by heating a mixture of a compound capable of forming free radicals and an unsaturated organic silane compound of formula RR'nSiY3-n (R is <=20C univalent unsaturated group bonded directly to Si; Y is hydrolyzable organic group; R' is <=20C univalent saturated group or Y; n is 0-2).
