PURPOSE:A dispersing agent, containing a specific water-soluble polyester derivative, specific (meth)acrylic acid copolymer and specific polyethylene glycol, and capable of dispersing coal powder in water and giving a slurry having a fluidity even in a high coal concentration. CONSTITUTION:A dispersing agent, containing (A) a water-soluble polyether derivative having 5,000-100,000mol.wt. of formula I (R1 is 3-4C alkylene oxide; lis 10-200; m and n are 500-1,000), a copolymer (or neutralized with an alkali) obtained by using (i) 10-95wt.% monomer of formula II (R2 is H or methyl; R3 is 2-4C alkylene oxide; R4 is H or 1-5C alkyl; n is 1-100), (ii) 90-5wt% monomer of formula III (R5 is H or methyl; X is H or mono- or bivalent metal, etc.) and (iii) 0-50wt% monomer copolymerizable with the components (i) and (ii) and (C) polyethylene glycol having 200-30,000mol.wt., and used for coal- water slurries.
