PURPOSE:To perform the operation efficiently without being troubled with electromagnetic noise, static electricity, etc., by providing a read table incorporating an optical fiber in a data detecting part of an input device. CONSTITUTION:A stylus 7 of a data indicating part 1 is brought to a figure position to be entered on a drawing 12 placed on a read table 14; and when a switch 10 is depressed, an output light 11 of a semiconductor laser 8 of the stylus 7 is irradiated to the drawing 12. The light 11 is detected by an optical fiber 9 provided in the table 14. This light is transmitted through the fiber 9 and is converted photoelectrically by a means 3, and coordinates of the drawing 12 are calculated in a data processing part 5 on a basis of the propagation time of the light made incident to the table 14 and the switching time of the switch 10 attendant on the stylus 7 which is sent through a control part 4. Calculation results are sent to a data output part 6 to display coordinate values.
