PURPOSE:To provide a titled brazing filler metal which contains a large amt. of B and is useful for brazing of metallic articles, and particularly for brazing of a stainless steel and high Ni alloy by forming a layer consisting substantially of B on at least one surface side of base foil consisting of a metal except B. CONSTITUTION:A layer consisting of B is formed on at least one surface side of base foil consisting of metallic foil which contains iron, Ni, Cr, etc. except B, is used for brazing ordinary metals and has <=100mu thickness to obtain an intended brazing filler metal. One embodiment of this invention provides a sandwich brazing filler metal formed by sandwiching foil consisting of B with Ni foil 2A and 2B which are the base foil. Such brazing filler metal 1A is manufactured by coating the powder B which is made into a paste by a volatile solvent such as alcohol on the Ni foil 2A. The material is then heated if necessary to disperse the powder and thereafter the powder B is pressed from above by the Ni foil 2B, by which the powder and the foil are rolled and united to one body. The surface layer part of the resultant brazing filler metal is coated with the Ni foil and has therefore excellent rolling performance and since a large amt. of B is contained, the excellent joint strength is obtd. |
