PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a locking apparatus for a manhole iron cover, which can positively prevent a locking portion thereof from being unlocked even if high pressure water is poured onto an iron cover body or the manhole iron cover is set on sloping ground. SOLUTION: The locking apparatus is comprised of a bracket 10 having an opening portion 11, the iron cover body 20 openably fitted into the opening 11, a hinge openably connecting the iron cover body 20 to the bracket 10, and a locking fixture 40 rockably pivoted onto a rear surface of the iron cover body 20, for disengageably engaging with an engaging projection 12 of the bracket 10. The locking fixture 40 is comprised of a pair of locking half bodies 41, a plug body 50 pivoted at a location between the locking half bodies 41 in a disengageable manner, for blocking a key hole 21 of the iron cover body 20, a bolt 58 and a nut 59 for connecting the locking half bodies 41 together, and a spring member 60 for engaging a hook portion 44 of each locking half body 41 in a direction that engages with the engaging projection 12 of the bracket 10.
