PURPOSE:To prevent the inevitable corrosion of a silver plated steel material by activating the surface of a steel material and by plating it with sivler-base metal after forming an intermediate layer of tin- or zinc-base metal. CONSTITUTION:A steel material is degreased, activated by cathodic reduction or other method, washed at once, and plated with tin, zinc or a tin-zinc alloy. The steel material is then plated with silver or a silver alloy. For example, it is striked with silver and plated thickly with silver. The reaction of the steel material with silver accompanied by electric corrosion can be inhibited, and a silver plated steel material with improved electrical connectibility and solderability is obtd.
