摘要 PURPOSE:To reduce the number of machining stages of work as well as to make size and quality in a magnetic head improvable, by forming a Teflon (tetrafluoroethylene) resin layer on a lapping action surface of one side of surface plates when only one side of a work composed of a fragile material is lapped with a duplex lapping machine. CONSTITUTION:A lower surface plate 11 consists of a tin plate whose surface is made up of a lot stripes in V-type groove for each. An upper surface plate 10 is formed with a Teflon resin layer 9 which makes its surface into planeness, and a work 1 is made into planetary motion both surface plates 10 and 11 via a carrier 8. And, a grain aqueous solution or an oily lapping solution is fed onto the lower surface plate 11 and thereby lapping operation takes place but a griding ratio of the work between both surface plate sides 11 and 10 at this time is 20:1 whereby only one side of the work can be lapped. In this connection, the Teflon resin is excellent in sliding properties so that chipping or cracking to be produced when the work leaps during lapping operation will no longer happen there. Thus, the number of machining stage of work can be well reduced and, what is more, size accuracy is improvable ever so better.
