PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set optimum stitch balancing thread tension while taking a sewing mode or the kind of pattern into account. SOLUTION: The initial value (supply coefficient) of stitch balancing thread tension set by a bobbin thread supply device is fine-tuned to a weak or strong value according to selected patterns 80, 81 and 82. A control part computes the amount that the thread is supplied according to the supply coefficient thus fine-tuned, and the thread is supplied by the computed amount of thread supply by controlling a solenoid. This arrangement enables the stitch balancing thread tension automatically set by the bobbin thread supply device to be independently set in a more detailed manner according to the kinds of seams and the sewing mode, and enables the stitch balancing thread tension set as the initial value to be further fine-tuned to achieve sewing of high quality.
