PURPOSE:To harden a feed screw member with low strain and to eliminate the need for a straightening process by providing a hardening mechanism between two nuts facing each other at a prescribed space, and hardening successively said member while feeding the member by the rotation of the nuts. CONSTITUTION:A work W is grasped by a chucking mechanism 5 provided to a carriage 6 and the carriage 5 is approached to a frame body F to insert the top end of the work W into the left end face of a nut 11a, then a rotational driving source 4 is driven. The nut 11a is then rotated by a pinion 42 and a ring gear 3a so that the work W advances rightward together with the carriage 6. A heating coil C and a cooling jacket J are operated upon arriving of the work W at the right end of the nut 11a, by which the work W projecting successively from the nut 11a is hardened. When the top end of the work W advances into a nut 11b and the mechanism 5 approaches to the body F, the work W is freed and at the same time a variable pinion 43 is displaced from the position (a) to (b) and the freely rotating nut 11b is forcibly rotated to assure the advance of the work W. |
