PURPOSE:To provide an optical recording medium which has high sensitivity and corrosion resistance and permits writing of information with laser light of a small output by providing a thin film consisting of a specific compsn. ratio of gold and antimony on a base plate. CONSTITUTION:A transparent PMMA base plate 11 is mounted on a vacuum deposition machine and vapor sources for gold and antimony are symmetrically disposed in the lower part. Vapor deposition is performed while the vapor sources are so controlled that the compsn. ratio (atomic fraction) of gold of a thin film 12 to be formed attains >=0.5 and <=0.75. This compsn. ratio is selected for the purpose of decreasing the light power required for writing by decreasing the m.p. of the alloy. The optical recording medium having the thin film 12 as its recording layer has excellent stability and withstands preservation for a long period of time. The light power required for writing is roughly equal to the light power of the conventional optical recording medium of a low melting metal. |
