PURPOSE:To ensure thermal conductivity, raise hardness at high temperature, and improve wear resistance and fatigue resistance by forming the outer interface of a porous metal body filled with an aluminium alloy by a compound layer of a porous metal body and aluminium in a ring support member for a ring groove of a piston ring. CONSTITUTION:A ring support member 6 forming a ring groove 3 for a piston ring of a piston 1 made of an aluminium alloy is formed by casting said member into a piston body 2 in a state where the pores of a porous metal body 8 comprising nickel series metal, copper series metal, and iron series metal, etc., are filled with an aluminium alloy 9 of a piston body 2. At this time, a compound layer 10 of the porous metal body 8 with metal is formed in a volume ratio ranging from 1 to 80%. Hereby, the ring support member is provided with a intermetallic compound layer excellent in hardness at higher temperature and heat resistance in high density on the surface layer and inner parts thereof. Thus, a heat resistant compound forms the skeleton of the ring support member, so that it is possible to improve fatigue resistance and wear resistance against respective load. |
